All Gods Children
I think that this piece of reporting from the New York Times is one the best -- most succinct -- most well-written descriptions of what evangelicalism (particularly the evangelical christian college) looks like as a cultural phenomenon.
I laughed. I cringed. I nodded. And I started feeling so ridiculous about my enthusiasm, that I thought I'd better post it for some of y'all to respond to. Former LAFILMSTUDIES people will enjoy Craig Detwiler's guest appearance...

whoops.
Thanks Bemis & Erik...
Fixed it.
And, Bemis -- You'd probably like Postman's book that Erik recommends -- since you're sort of looking for books...
I read that book while at Malone, actually E., for the first time. While I love postman's critique -- I also don't like how he glosses over the possibility that NEW literacies may actually help people develop into sophisticated complex thinkers in new & different ways than the old literacies...
this link is a lead in to a great hypertext web where one author compares Lanham's (another favorite of mine) thinking to Postman's...
i end up coming down much closer to Lanham's take on new media -- though I think that Postman's critique is VERY important and useful piece of media literacy needed in our culture....
Hope you have fun shopping....
(the first thing i said when i heard about your buckley was: is that a reference to the buckley in royal tenenbaums?!)
