Back Burner Resolution

Did I ever tell you why this is called a back burner?

The idea is roughly that ideas that I love alot, but don't get paid to think about needed a space, a public space...

(I'm an "external processer" -- a nice way of admitting that i'm an exhibitionist)

...to let those ideas grow a little bit.

My friend Marcia wisely critiques such dis-integrative thinking about one's life.

What's a front burner anyway? What's a back burner? Who says for either one?

I agree completely with her, but, all the same persist naming these whirling windmills as Giants.

So naming something "backburner" is really a sign of affection. Not belittlement.

I have, variously backburnered:

1. everyday miscellany directed to long distance friends and family,

2. political rants,

3. my idea to open a local microcinema,

4. academic analysis,

5. childhood memories,

6. short fiction,

7. journaling about my larger creative projects

8. prophetic attempts, &

9. top five lists.

................

Today I announce a new back burner.

I'm writing a book about hospitality.

My influences are: Sacred Journey, An American Childhood, Traveling Mercies", Girl Meets God, Blue Like Jazz.

If you didn't gather it from that list -- it's a memoir....and something of a spiritual autobiography... so.

just thought I'd let you know.
