I'm preparing games for Ms. Spider's Tea Party this morning at Jaelyn's school. Its wierd that this will be the first time that I'll be a "room parent." I've always felt a little leery about it...like room-parenting would be a little too controlling a presence in my kids lives...but on the other hand I love watching them through the one way window...
I'm trying to find a replacement for the teacup relay since relays are too one-student-at-a-time-focused. Something that involves bigger parts of the group...
Last night at the Y, I was on the elliptical machine, thinking about the games I keep trying to choose between, and I thought:
I can't believe how nervous I feel about this. I feel really sick to my stomach.
Turns out. I was just sick. I won't go into any details, but I feel FINE this morning. Only I'm not having any coffee.
hope your morning and day is full of:
peace~

i should check your blogs to see if thats where you're debating. I certainly don't think he's a born-again-er. As far as whether he's "using" religion or not -- I sort of think that anytime a political candidate embraces an ideology or a god term from any subgroup in their constituency -- they are "using" that subgroup / belief / practice.
Political speech is such a particular thing and anyone who's done it for any length of time is keenly aware of how, potentially, anything you say is going to be turned into a soundbyte or woven into a tapestry of interpretation and punditry.
So in that sense I'd say that GW "uses" the NRA and Kerry uses the African American church and GW uses Tony Blair and Kerry uses the teacher's lobby.
So it makes sense to me that some people would want to debate the question -- to what degree do the platforms that this candidate is "using" match / cohere-with their actions / words / values / behaviours?
and I would argue that that question is most important in terms of their official actions / words / values / behaviours...that in fact finding coherence in the Public region of public officials' lives makes more sense than scapegoating them based on the incoherence of their "private" lives (Lewinsky for Clinton, drug-addict past for Bush).
But ultimately, I'm disinterested in *most* of the public rhetoric they offer to us in campaign time. It seems like an unhelpful representation of the good or evil that they will probably do (both) in their term. I dislike that our national democratic dialogue is so focused on analysis of campaigns, polls & political strategy *&* soundbyte style articulations of particular values: safety! strength! jobs! war! middle class! terrorism!
Aren't we -- regular people -- capable of arguing what would constitute a just and good society in terms of healthcare, trade, education, foreign policy? And then looking at how these candidates' records might support our vision?
Am I ranting? I am. I am going to stop.
I realize that I got a little off target in that rant. Sorry. As you know, such discursive perambulation is my speciality...
I wish we could have Dialogue on this and so many other issues Nathan...the medium limits the possibilities of good dialogue so much...
